Greetings! Sorry for being inactive lately! I was planning on posting something else today, but I decided I should review the newest installment in the Keeper of the Lost Cities series: Flashback.
Flashback is over 800 pages, but I finished it in less than two days. It was so amazing, like every Keeper book! Let’s dive into the review.

Councillor Emery sighed. “You’re not going to make this easy, are you?”
“I’m pretty sure that’s my job,” Sophie countered.
“As the moonlark?” Councillor Alina asked with a noticeable scoff in her voice.
Sophie smiled sweetly at her. “As a teenager.”
Bo made a choked sound that might’ve been a laugh.-Shannon Messenger, Flashback
Those are the best spoiler free quotes. 😉 I just love that last one, don’t you?
I’ll start with the pros. This book focuses a lot on some of the subplots, which I enjoyed. Some absolutely AMAZING things happened in this book, but they are very spoiler-y so I you’ll have to read the book yourself to find out. I love how the action starts early on in this book
Now let’s move on to the cons. I would have liked to see more of Dex and Biana. I felt like the crew didn’t spend much time with everyone together, which I missed. And I feel like we didn’t actually make that much progress in the main plot. Yes, we learned some new things, but in other places we’re still stuck at where we were in the last book. It was 800 pages, so I would’ve expected Sophie to figure out more about her enemies and get closer to stopping them. I still have so many questions that haven’t been answered, and I think it would’ve been best if it was a little more fast-paced so that we could’ve gotten more answers. In the other books I’ve felt like the plot has definitely progressed between the first page and the last, but here I felt like their enemies are still nowhere close to being defeated or understood.
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED the book! I enjoyed reading it so much and I’m already ready for a re-read. I just think it could’ve been a little bit more wowing. Shannon has less than a year to write the books, so I understand that she doesn’t have time to make EVERYTHING we want happen. Plus there are still going to be 2-3 more books for everything to get sorted out! And a lot of the subplots were focused on a lot here, so that’s good. I rate it five stars! My favorites in the series are probably KOTLC, Everblaze, Neverseen, and Lodestar. 😉 But Flashback would probably be next!
If you haven’t read the Keeper of the Lost Cities series yet, go do that! You won’t be disappointed. 😀
