Greetings, friends! If you are new to my blog, hello! Today i am doing something i have never done before: a book review.
I have no idea why i have never done a book review. Maybe it has to do with the fact that i struggle with organizing my thoughts on a book. Usually all i can do is scream and rant about them. XD
So today, I am going to present to you my thoughts on Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard.
This is a world divided by blood – red or silver. The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change. That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power. Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime. But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart.
PLOT:
I really enjoyed the plot! All the mystery and suspense of the story kept me on the edge of my seat. I liked the whole thing about Mare being hidden as a lost silver princess, i usually don’t read books with “princesses” but Mare rocked it and i just loved it.
CHARACTERS:
I liked Mare, but there were a *few* things that i didn’t like about her. First was her conceitedness/selfishness. I feel like she thinks she’s better than everyone else. Also i think she lacks a heart at times. I can’t say anything without giving out spoilers, but you will see what i mean when you read it.
I loved Maven. He seemed so caring and polite and empathetic. He was my favorite character.
I hated Cal. Enough said. He annoyed me.
Mare’s family was pretty cool, and so was Kilorn.
WORLD/SETTING:
This has to be my favorite part of the book. I just love the world: the difference between the Reds’ and Silvers’ lives is so different and… heartbreaking?? I don’t know but i felt really bad for the Reds. There was a resemblance between our world and this one. I really enjoyed reading a book in a completely different world.
WRITING:
Victoria Aveyard is a talented writer. She is very descriptive and the way she weaves her story together creates a masterpiece. BUT WARNING: SHE USES THE WORD “MURMERS” ON BASICALLY EVERY. SINGLE. PAGE. IT KINDA DRIVES ME CRAZY.
OVERALL:
This was a great read and I’m reading the next book at the moment! I recommend it to any fantasy or dystopian novel lovers out there. BUT BE PREPARED FOR THE END THERE IS A HUGE BETRAYAL THAT SHATTERED MY HEART. AND ITS A CLIFFHANGER. So make sure you have the next book so you can immediately start reading it after this one.
MY RATING:
4/5 STARS
. . .
Have you read RED QUEEN? What was your high and low of the week so far?
Farewell,
M Y A
That sounds like a really cool book!
(Actually, it sounds sorta like something I’d write. Except that I would probably either 1) dismiss the idea and tell myself people wouldn’t like it, or 2) give up in the plotting stage like I always tend to do.)

I’ve seen it twice! The movie was really good! And emotional. I saw it with my class on a field trip and we all had tears in our eyes. 😭 Some of us cried…. BUT ITS REALLY GOOD.
